So... what do I pray for?

rosary-prayerEveryone knows it's easy to pray for material things. Cars, houses, money, you name it, it's been prayed for. But when it comes down to praying for grace to help with the spiritual life, what do we really need and what should we pray for?

Humility: Humility is one of the most important graces, because it reveals who we really are compared to God. If we sincerely ask God for an increase in humility, He's going to see that we aren't prancing around like a prideful Pharisee preaching on how good we are, but actually turning to Him for the help only He can give. Through humility we can give God the glory He deserves, progress through the spiritual life, love our neighbour more rather than thinking we're better than them, and set ourselves free from the bonds of pride.

Perseverance: No matter how far we've gotten in the spiritual life, it doesn't matter if we give up later on and go back to our old ways. Praying for the grace to persevere everyday will help us to get through even the most difficult trials, and bring us to eternal happiness.

Love of Neighbour: The second most important commandment from Our Lord is to love our neighbour, so it's quite obvious that we should pray to love them. Always keep in mind that you must love everyone and wish them to get to heaven, even the most annoying of your enemies, forgive them if they've done any injustice towards you, and not speak unkindly about them. Hard to do? Well... that's why you're praying for it!

Patience and Long Suffering: Praying for patience should always be on our list because we get annoyed very easily. Not only do we get annoyed easily, but we find it hard to suffer for a long time patiently. Therefore beg Our Lord for the patience He had when He was enduring the three hours of agony on the Cross. I know sometimes it seems like life is too difficult to bear, but give it to Christ and ask Him to take over!  Ask Him to do all things you think impossible, as there's nothing He cannot do.

Love of God: Since this is at the bottom, it must be pointed out that this must be the foundation of all the rest. We need a reason to have these virtues and to live in the spiritual life. Asking for an increase of the love of God will always be given, in fact, whatever is good for the soul will be given! A burning love for Our Lord will continuously give us the strength to humble ourselves, continue to the end, love all, and bear all through Him and His Blessed Mother.

God always wants to help you with anything you need. He is constantly waiting for you in the tabernacle! So go! Ask and it will be given you! God bless you all!

Chaplet of the Holy Wounds

One of the best ways to honour Our Lord is by recalling His Passion and what He went through for love of us. A great prayer that can help with this is the "Chaplet of the Holy Wounds." This Chaplet is said like this using rosary beads:

On the crucifix and first three beads:

O JESUS, Divine Redeemer, be merciful to us and to the whole world. Amen.

STRONG God, holy God, immortal God, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Amen.

GRACE and mercy, O my Jesus, during present dangers; cover us with Thy Precious Blood. Amen.

ETERNAL Father, grant us mercy through the Blood of Jesus Christ, Thine only Son; grant us mercy, we beseech Thee. Amen, Amen, Amen.

On the large [middle] beads:
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Wounds of our Lord Jesus Christ.
To heal the wounds of our souls.

On the small [decade] beads:
 My Jesus, pardon and mercy.
Through the merits of Thy Holy Wounds.

These prayers were revealed to Sr. Mary Martha Chambon (1841-1907), at the Monastery of the Visitation of Chambery. This Chaplet helps us to meditate deeply on the Holy Wounds and the Passions, and calls down grace which we and the world need. Originally it was approved for the Order of the Visitation of Our Lady in 1912, but then was approved for anoyone's private devotion in 1924 by the Sacred Penitentiary. And are there promises? Yes:

 1. "At each word that you pronounce of the Chaplet of the Holy Wounds, I allow a drop of My Blood to fall upon the soul of a sinner."

2. "Each time that you offer to My Father the merits of My divine Wounds, you win an immense fortune."

3."Souls that will have contemplated and honored My crown of thorns on earth, will be My crown of glory in Heaven!"

4. "I will grant all that is asked of Me through the invocation of My Holy Wounds. You will obtain everything, because it is through the merit of My Blood, which is of infinite price. With My Wounds and My Divine Heart, everything can be obtained."

5. "From My Wounds proceed fruits of sanctity. As gold purified in the crucible becomes more beautiful, so you must put your soul and those of your companions into My sacred Wounds; there they will become perfected as gold in the furnace. You can always purify yourself in My Wounds."
6. "My Wounds will repair yours. My Wounds will cover all your faults. Those who honor them will have a true knowledge of Jesus Christ. In meditation on them, you will always find a new love. My wounds will cover all your sins."

7. "Plunge your actions into My Wounds and they will be of value. All your actions, even the least, soaked in My Blood, will acquire by this alone an infinite merit and will please My Heart."

8. "In offering My Wounds for the conversion of sinners, even though the sinners are not converted, you will have the same merit before God as if they were."

9. "When you have some trouble, something to suffer, quickly place it in My Wounds, and the pain will be alleviated."

10. "This aspiration must often be repeated near the sick: 'My Jesus, pardon and mercy through the merits of Your Holy Wounds!' This prayer will solace soul and body."

11. "A sinner who will say the following prayer will obtain conversion: 'Eternal Father, I offer You the Wounds of our Lord Jesus Christ to heal those of our souls.'"

12. "There will be no death for the soul that expires in My Holy Wounds; they give true life."

13. "This chaplet is a counterpoise to My justice; it restrains My vengeance."

14. "Those who pray with humility and who meditate on My Passion, will one day participate in the glory of My divine Wounds."

15. "The more you will have contemplated My painful Wounds on this earth, the higher will be your contemplation of them glorious in Heaven."

16. "With My Wounds and My Divine Heart you can obtain all you ask. My Wounds will repair your wounds. My wounds will cover all your faults. Those who honor them will have true knowledge of Me."

17. "Do not forget to offer My Holy Wounds for the souls in Purgatory as there are but few who think of their relief. The Holy Wounds are the treasure of treasures for the souls in Purgatory."

Sins, Despair, and the Love of God

“For love of souls, I instituted the Sacrament of Penance, that I might forgive them, not once or twice, but as often as they need it to recover grace. There I wait for them, longing to wash away their sins, not in water, but in My Blood. How often in the course of the ages have I, in one way or another, made known My love for men: I have shown them how ardently I desire their salvation. I have revealed My Heart to them. This devotion has been as light cast over the whole earth, and today by its means those who labour to gain souls to My service have been enabled to do so." - Our Lord's words to Sister Josepha Menéndez.

If our heart isn't in the right place in the 21st century, the world can suck us in an instant, causing us to commit innumerable sins that add up, and in this pressured society, this can lead to the sin of despair.

But there is always hope in the darkest of situations. No matter what you did Our Lord still died for you, is still thinking of you, and will always be on fire for love of you. Let us then speak of His love for sinners, since this is the best way to increase our hope.

 1) His love for individuals - Although Our Lord died for the whole human race, and loves the human race as a whole, He loves you singularly. As St. Augustine said, "If you were the only person on earth, Christ would have still suffered and died for you." When He was in Agony in the Garden of Olives, He was thinking of you, when He was being whipped, He persevered for love of you, when He was nailed to the Cross, He asked His Father to forgive you! Not only that, but He thinks of you every moment of every day, making sure you have everything you need, protecting you and strengthening you against the devil. Look at His Sacred Heart! There's a reason it's on fire, it burns for YOU.

2) His tenderness towards sinners - "But my sins are too horrible..." Guess what, He knew you were going to say that, so He was thinking of you when He spoke of the Prodigal Son. He didn't say the father of the sinful son cast him away, rather He threw a party because he was so happy! Yes you made a mistake, just go and confess it! There's a reason there's a confessional waiting for you, just go do it. Ashamed? Mary Magdalene was too - did Jesus not forgive her? Our Lord is especially tender to the repentant sinner, just like the sheep that went astray. He said it Himself that the good shepherd looks for his one sheep out of ninety nine - He was saying that for a reason.... He was thinking of you!

3) His never ending hope - Not only is His love infinite, but He waits every second of every day for you to think of Him once more so he can inspire you to turn back. Although humans change, God never changes, Truth never changes, and His mercy never changes. He said in the Bible that He didn't come for the just, but the sinner! Do you think he wouldn't forgive you because of what you've done? Don't forget His Blood was poured out for you in hope that one day you would return.

Therefore fight the temptation to give up and fall into the easy world. Just imagine on your deathbed - would you be happy with giving up, or would you regret not turning back when you had the chance? So turn back! He's waiting for you! Peace be to all of you, and may Our Lord's guiding light find you from the dark tunnels of the world.

A Good Movie and a Few Words

So I thought I would mix it up a bit and post my favourite movie, "Jesus of Nazareth."

Please watch here: Part 1 -
                             Part 2 -

An article is coming soon, just putting the finishing touches. Also, I've added a new gadget to my blog, it's a poll box where I'll be putting a simple question, and you can answer via multiple choice. This way I can have more ideas on articles that people have an interest in reading. Also, since this is a more informal post, I'd really like to thank you all for reading my blog, it means so much to me! And if you'd like to give me advice on my writing, or want me to write on a particular topic, please leave a comment below. God bless you all, and may our Blessed Mother protect you!

Note: In the movie it shows Our lady having a natural birth, but this didn't occur. Since she had no original sin, she wouldn't have suffered through childbirth, and Venerable Mary Agreda in the City of God says the same in this link:

Freaking Out and the End of the World

We've all heard someone speaking about the end of the world. "When is it going to be??" "It's coming soon for sure!" 'We need to prepare for the Last Judgment!" Yes, the end of the world will come, yes we can watch the signs of the times as Our Lord suggested, but there can be many dangers:
Anxiety -  When you consider the end times to be any day now, and dwell on what's going to happen when it comes, our whole spiritual life becomes cluttered with fearful distraction and unnecessary anxiety. We have no control of the future, and if we are in the state of grace, why worry? God is in control of the future, and all we have is the present, so why waste it on useless worrying?
Different Opinion of God - Another danger would be to begin having a different view of God. Thinking always about doom and gloom makes you begin to think that God perhaps isn't as loving and merciful as you thought. Of course you can keep yourself updated on what wars are going on and such, but worryingly waiting for the atomic bombs to go off for WWIII isn't going to benefit your soul. Your mind will never be able to grow through the thoughts and inspirations from God, it will just be worrying and forgetting the goodness of God.
Wasting Time - One doesn't realize how much time one loses when it comes to worrying. Minutes, hours, and days can be lost when we're worrying about everything! God doesn't want us to worry about anything, and just as Saint Pio said, "Pray, hope, and don't worry." Especially in these times, we can easily fall into anxiety, but how much easier will life be if we just trust God and go on perfecting our souls.
So what now? Well, we can definitely watch what's going on, and yes it will be gloomy, but keep your head up! God will always be in control and will always be loving and thinking about you! The end times will come, and since the anti-Christ has to come before, lets only start to think of worrying after he comes. God bless and Our Lady protect you all!

Freedom or Slavery?

We are constantly hearing the word freedom. Freedom this, freedom that - we use it so much that it has almost lost its meaning. In fact, it's taken on a whole new definition! Freedom in these times means being free from God's laws, free from society's laws, free from even natural laws. But are we really free? Could laws actually be a path to freedom? Well, let's see.

Since we consider ourselves to be free when we no longer have laws, let us use a hypothetical example from the family. In this family there are no laws, no rules, no religion, nothing of the sort. The family members can do what they want, but is there real happiness? The children are slaves to their feelings and vices, the parents are slaves to their debts and regular TV shows, there is no control, and no order. Without order there cannot be happiness, which the freedom seekers are really after.

And with laws? With laws we have boundaries. Just like a soccer game must have boundaries to function, so must we have boundaries in our lives to be happy. When one obeys all the laws which God has given him, he is set free of himself, of his vices, even of the world! Who knew laws could put you even above the saying, "The sky's the limit." And when you have law in the home, the children obey their parents and grow up with good common sense. The parents do their duty and take care of all that is needed to be done. There is order, and everyone is happy. And what about the teenagers who keep complaining they want freedom? Well, really give this a chance. Your parents were teens once... sounds cliché, but it's true, and you can learn from their mistakes. You can learn from everyone's mistakes and have a bright start! Just try it... I promise it's much better than it sounds.

And what about God, does He restrain my freedom? No. Yes we were given free will, yes we have the choice to follow Him, and yes we can "follow the way we want," but these gifts were to benefit us, not put us against God! We were given free will to make the choice so that we may freely love God. We were given the choice so that we can freely love His Son, and isn't it best to serve God the way His Son taught and the way the Church teaches? This way we can serve Him the way He wants to be served, not the way we prefer. After all, the real freedom we're searching for is the freedom in heaven, so why not compromise a little with our modern age comforts in order for us and others to get to eternal happiness. Real freedom is the fact that we have a choice to follow God or not. We may have the choice, but we don't have the right to deny Him; He's the whole reason we're here! Let us then choose correctly, and find real freedom which is Truth.

A More Serious Tune

Up to this point I’ve only spoken on a few Catholic points, devotions, and such, but I think now I should focus a bit more on what’s going on in the world and what’s going on in my head. I’ve stayed anonymous up until now, but let me now reveal a little more about myself to the reader that I’m just an obscure Catholic teenage girl, living in a fast-paced and changing world. Perhaps my past articles make Catholicism seem like an easy, nice and soft religion to follow, but the truth is, it takes heroic virtue to even be just a simple Catholic in these times. Agree? If you don’t, it’s probably because you’re thinking of another type of Catholic. Here, let me explain.

The first type of Catholics focuses mainly on being nice and not really speaking on differences, but just focusing on the sweet things as to not offend anyone. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? Well yes and no. Catholics are definitely supposed to love their neighbor, but I don’t recall the saints ever worrying about offending the other person because they believed differently. Yes we must always respect people and love them, but there’s nothing wrong with speaking up! Once you stop speaking of differences, and focus solely on being nice and indifferent, you completely lose your identity. Catholics have lost their voice and what they stand for. So, who are they? And I don’t mean what are their likenesses to the other religions, what makes them different?

The second type are those who believe firmly in doctrine and aren’t afraid to speak out on their differences when the necessity arrives. Catholics believe that the Catholic Church is the One, True, Holy, and Apostolic Church out of which there is no salvation, plain and simple. We believe that Jesus is God, we believe that His most Blessed Mother is the Co-Redemtrix. We believe that the Holy Eucharist is the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus, and that our mission is to repent of our sins, let the grace of God perfect our souls, and convert others to the truth. I don’t understand why this is so difficult for Catholics to say. What does it mean to be a Catholic? So you see, Catholics are terrified to speak up, to answer difficult questions, so they decide to blend in and follow the rest of the world.

So here I am, here you are, and there’s the world. There comes a point in our lives when we have to decide, when we have to choose if we’ll go with the masses, or stand up for what we believe. And if the world hates us for it?  Look at John 15:18-19 “ If the world hate you, know ye, that it hath hated me before you. If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” Our home isn’t here, it’s in Heaven! Don’t be afraid, be Catholic!

But where do teens fit into this? The teenage world is looking bleak, with all the immorality, crime, drugs, depression, and even suicide. Why? Because at this age a person makes the decision of what they want to believe, and finding nothing in the world, and no voice to tell them the Truth, there really isn’t anything left. Therefore, if any teens are reading this, don’t be afraid to look for the Truth, it really is out there. Just think about it, if it wasn’t there, you wouldn’t be looking for it! And I know a lot is going on in the Church, but these times are critical in history. Where will you stand?

Reflections on Nature

All you have to do is step outside to see it. Almost everyone is glued to his phone, either texting, emailing, tweeting,, and then I thought, they’re missing out on so much! Nature is something that is being put aside in our world today, yet it is one of the most beautiful ways to see God while we're here on earth. Jesus even hinted to this, if we look deep into Scripture, He is almost giving us a nudge so we can begin to reflect on how to find Him in nature. He says that the wind blows where it wills. He tells us to look at the birds of the air and the lilies of the fields. Read Romans 1:20: " For the invisible things of Him, from the creation of the world, are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made; His eternal power also, and divinity: so that they are inexcusable."

Perhaps there is something much deeper, much more metaphoric and symbolic within nature. Maybe that's why our world wants to shut it out so badly with the use of technology. Let us then venture into the magnificent beauty of nature, and one way to do this is to go to this website: This website will show you everything from the smallest to biggest creations in our universe. We, as humans, are incapable of even seeing a fraction of God's creation, just look at space! It makes you think of infinity and the supreme wisdom of God when you think of how complex nature is!

And maybe nature can give us an insight into God's mind. It's as if you made a painting  - it reflects what you think. Just take a tree, arms always outstretched, patient and willing to be a home to whomever is willing to land upon its solid branches, symbolizing the kindness of God. Or maybe the rain, always falling to support the world, even when the human part has turned against Him, symbolizing His mercy. And just look at the mountains! They show only the beginning of a vast picture of the magnitude of God. But this article is only showing you the door to another world, a world that has been put away by our modern society. No one can show it to you, you have to go out there and find it. Nature is hinting at the next life to come, what will you do to find it? Just ask Our Lady - she'll show you :).

There's a whole other world out there... don't let anything stop you from finding it.

Don't Forget Me!!

Right now someone is staring at you.... well not with human eyes, angelic eyes! Remember him? He’s your guardian angel!

I think often people forget about their guardian angels because they have “better” things to do. They don’t spend any time with them because maybe they don’t talk, maybe they’re not fun, and maybe you just aren’t close right now. But I’m telling you, if you give your guardian angel a chance, I promise you, he won’t let you down. So who is he? What are the benefits? Is it really him, or have I just lost it and am talking to myself? Well, hopefully this article can help with these questions.

Firstly, God chose a pure, spotless angel to be your guardian and protector in life. Every minute of every day, he’s always making sure if you’re OK. Remember when you almost walked into traffic and suddenly stopped walking, or dodged a ball that was flying right into your face by the skin of your teeth? Yes.... that was him! He cares about you so much, is always praying for you, and doesn’t take his eyes off of you at any moment in the night. He is the closest friend in your life that God has freely given to you, yet we don’t stop and say hello.

Secondly, he was given to you, not just as a protector, but as a friend. We constantly forget that there is a whole other world out there watching and praying for us, and our angel has been put here to be a piece of the next life... right now! I bet yours is just counting the days when he can slowly show you the goodness of heaven. In little bits you can begin to think of the things of heaven - you can almost feel what it will be like in the next life - that’s him whispering to you!

Thirdly, guardian angels aren’t just there praying and protecting, but he wants to have fun with you! Excited? Go share it with him! He’ll probably be more excited than you! It’s always more fun to do things with a friend, especially when it comes to striving to go to heaven, and he’s a friend who never leaves.

Finally, he has been put here to be our intercessor. He can take our prayers and offer them to God in a purer way. Or even better, he can purify them, give them to Our Lady, and she can purify them again, and then give them to God, just like a prayer filter. All this is waiting for you, it’s actually already here. But you first have to begin. It takes a little while before you and your guardian angel can form a lasting bond, instead of him just praying and watching over you on his own. Just speak with him, pray to him, think of him, love him!

..... Well go on! Say hello!
